    JOB GOAL:
    The Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) shapes and drives the strategic direction of the HR function by aligning and empowering the HR team to effectively and efficiently serve our employees and provide a world-class learning environment for our students. This position develops and executes a human resource strategy that supports the organization's overall business plan and strategic direction. The CHRO is an executive leadership team member and reports to the CEO.
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION: This individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at an excellent level:
    General:

    • Create and execute a plan for human resources services. Identify current and future needs of our instructional models and develop and align policy, regulations, processes, and procedures, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, staffing, training, evaluation, and retention strategies.
    • Work with superintendents and school leaders to forecast staffing needs and develop staffing plans in alignment with the schools' budget.
    • Lead a team of Human Resource Generalists to develop recruitment and retention strategies that attract quality candidates for our instructional models, including HBCU relationships, Grow Your Own programs, and alternative pathway development.
    • Create and oversee the new employee onboarding experience for all new hires.
    • Administer employment agreements and supervise employment renewals and nonrenewals.
    • Provide EEO and work cooperatively with others to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
    • Direct and monitor the employee performance management process, ensuring that all supervisors have the proper training and employees experience fair and equitable treatment.
    • Assist supervisors and school leaders with employee performance improvement plans.
    • Oversee the necessary processing for issuing and renewing state certificates and permits.
    • Develop and implement procedures for preparing and updating job descriptions and properly classifying positions in the schools' compensation plans.

      Compensation and Benefits:

      • Develop and administer the schools' compensation philosophy to ensure fair, intentional, competitive, and retainable wages.
      • Administer leave benefit programs, monitor employee attendance patterns, and create systems to encourage attendance.
      • Lead and manage the schools and Central Office health insurance, optional employee benefits, wellness programs, and unemployment compensation benefits programs.

        Employee Relations:

        • Promote positive workplace culture, teamwork, and collaborative decision-making among staff.
        • Proactively identify and respond to issues of interest to employees.
        • Lead, administer, and recommend improved employee engagement assessments, including system-wide employee satisfaction and climate surveys.
        • Implement and oversee effective school-wide employee recognition programs.
        • Coordinate communication and mediation processes for employee complaints, grievances, and concerns.
        • Monitor and improve employee retention and turnover through data analysis and exit interviews.
        • Ensure the employee handbook and personnel directory are created, updated annually, and distributed.

          Human Resources Department Leadership:

          • Lead, manage, and hold the Human Resources team accountable.
          • Lead HR information systems enhancements, technology innovations, and new working methods.
          • Evaluate the job performance of department staff to ensure effectiveness.
          • Provide training and development for department staff.
          • Establish department goals and objectives and ensure department operations contribute to district goals and objectives.
          • Develop, administer, and monitor the annual budget for the department.
          • Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of human resource rules, regulations, and practices and adjust plans, policies, and procedures accordingly.
          • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior and serves as a role model for all staff.

                OFFICE HOURS: Office hours will be standard business hours in Grand Rapids, MI with some night and weekend responsibilities.
