SPECTRUM COMMUNITY SERVICES, an affiliate of Spectrum Human Services Providing a Spectrum of Quality Services and Life Enhancing Opportunities for Individuals in the Community Now Hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to assist people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) in realizing their full potential and becoming valued and participating members of their communities. The work DSPs do is complex and goes well beyond caregiving. It requires a variety of skills including independent problem solving, decision making, behavioral assessment and prevention, medication administration, healthcare, teaching new skills, crisis prevention and intervention and much more. The job duties of a DSP may resemble those of teachers, nurses, social workers, counselors, therapists, dieticians, chauffeurs, personal trainers, caregivers, and others. Their work requires strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with the people they support and their families. DSPs work in our licensed residential group homes and in family or individual homes. Their work is determined by the unique needs and preferences of the individuals they support and they are held to high ethical and professional standards. DSPs work on teaching independent living skills, self-care skills, and assisting with household tasks. DSPs work with individuals and assist with daily personal tasks, including bathing and dressing. They help with appointments, help to organize a schedule, and provide transportation. They help to shop for groceries and preparing meals that meet the specific individuals' dietary needs. DSPs encourage engagement in social networks and community activities. We provide extensive DSP training that covers the essential knowledge, ethical principles and practices, and skills necessary to provide direct support to individuals with I/DD. DSPs receive training in the philosophy of self-determination and the value of full inclusion and community participation of individuals. The individuals we serve receive person-centered and self-directed high quality long term supports and services. Multiple open positions available throughout Kent County; Grand Rapids, Kentwood, Byron Center, Grandville, Comstock Park, Rockford, Sparta, Cedar Springs, and more. We have both Full-time and Part-time 2nd and 3rd shift positions available, very limited Part-time 1st shift positions currently available. Minimum Qualifications:Must be at least 18 years of agePossess a valid unrestricted Michigan Driver's license (some exceptions may apply)Three references deemed acceptable to SpectrumExperience working with people with disabilities (preferred but not required, entry rate could be even higher with DSP and I/DD experience)Selected candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check including fingerprinting, medical clearance (TB test, drug screen & physical), MVR clearance, MDHHS clearance, CMHA and State of MI clearance. New Hire Sign-On Bonus of $500, eligible after 30 days of employment! Total starting wage is $15.50 to $16.50 per hour (regular rate of $13.50 to $14.50 per hour plus an additional $2.00 per hour COVID premium pay incentive.)
