The Lead Aquatics Specialist will ensure a safe, fun area for children and adults to interact and enjoy. This position requires 50% face-to-face leadership (Lifeguard/Swim Instruction/Pool Deck Observation) and 50% office work; and requires early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIESKeeps Health Department recordsCompletes lesson rostersSupervises shifts on designated daysOrientates new staff membersInforms Director of needed staff re-certificationsReplenishes First Aid suppliesAdministers emergency First Aid and CPREnforces aquatic rules and proceduresWashes and maintains deck, equipment and pool bottom; keeps deck free of obstructionsMaintains supervision of participantsTakes and records chemical readingsMaintains all areas in clean, presentable fashionEnforces safety standards and follows emergency proceduresRun Lifeguard In-service trainingsRun a minimum of two (2) lifeguard certification or lifeguard crossover classes per yearTeach swim lessons and/or Lifeguard as the facility needs and in a manner that leads by example to other Aquatics staffSupport Aquatic Director in running of all required Aquatics AuditsAssists with scheduling of lifeguards and/or Swim InstructorsComputer proficiency to support registrations and rosters for swim lesson programPerforms any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand RapidsCOMPENSATION$16.43 - $20.54 ; Full Time; Non-Exempt (40 hours/week)BENEFITSFree YMCA Family Membership and program discounts!Health/Dental/Vision InsurancePaid Time Off, beginning at 3 weeks per year9 Paid Holidays per year10% retirement contribution upon eligibility, learn more here403(b) retirement savings accountThe YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. Some Aquatics supervisory experience preferred. Proficient in computers required. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
