R&D EH&S Compliance Associate
(Must be local to Midland, MI or surround area)
The R&D EH&S Compliance Associate is responsible for daily
collection, packaging and labeling of laboratory chemical wastes
for transport and disposal; managing and inspecting building waste
storage areas and selected safety and emergency equipment;
documenting required inspections and maintaining R&D EH&S
owned building files. The Compliance Associate will work
independently or in a natural work group to produce timely and
reliable results while meeting all regulatory and Dupont
Responsibilities: Waste Collection & Packaging
-Collects wastes from laboratories and process area for
transportation to Central Accumulation Areas (CAA).
-Ensures laboratory waste containers are properly labeled prior to
removal from labs/process areas.
-Utilizes available resources to determine proper waste disposal
-Works with researchers and EH&S to initiate waste
characterization process. Maintains necessary documentation for
-Ensures waste packs comply with federal, state, local and Dupont
regulations and requirements.
-Maintains CAA including housekeeping, waste pack storage, waste
inventory sheets, packaging supplies, and posting of signs.
-Completes and documents inspections of the CAA and other waste
storage areas in accordance with Resource Conservation and Recovery
Act RCRA requirements.
-Interacts with R&D personnel to plan individual clean-ups and
projects that may involve special waste disposal activities.
-Coordinate with various work groups to organize and complete
building wide cleanups.
-Performs periodic checks of safety equipment and maintains files
of required documentation. Initiates and follows through on issue
resolution as needed (i.e. work order submittal and completion
-Informs and explains routine compliance check issues to building
personnel as needed.
-Reports task completion status to Dupont Supervisor (i.e. via MTL
or other tracking mechanism).
Other Special Tasks:
-Participate in various engineering and Industrial Hygiene
projects. Such areas include conducting noise monitoring, lab hood
air flow surveys, secondary flow indicator calibrations and local
exhaust ventilation evaluations (including smoke tests).
-Assist with work process training for new Compliance
-Assist R&D EH&S Compliance team as needed. Examples may
include: procedure development, regulator and gas cylinder
management, non routine packaging of large quantities (i.e. 55
gallons) of chemicals into smaller containers for disposal, empty
drum recycling/disposal, and prepping pumps for repair. Special
circumstances may require the use of a respirator.
Strongly prefer previous safety experience
Academic or professional lab experience is REQUIRED
Will consider AAS or BS grad in a science, preferably EHS
